How Do You Find Your Blog’s Visitors?

blogging, gravatars, hover cardsWhen I have new visitors to my blog, I like to visit my visitors blogs in return. Sometimes I miss the note in the drop down menu “Notifications” telling me who was here (which by clicking on would take me directly to my visitor’s blog) and instead I’ll notice a new little Gravatar image that I’ve never seen before following a post. Clicking on the Gravatar and/or Hover Card takes me to my visitors Public Profile but I do not always find a link from the Public Profile page to a blog… or anything other website, additional blog, Facebook, Twitter, Youtube, etc. that a visitor is associated with. Then :( I’m sad because I can’t go to see what my visitors blog is about and thank them.

I suppose if I did more digging I could find visitors on one of the lists WordPress provides (although I’ve tried that method and I still don’t seem to find everyone). The “Notification” list (which WordPress has recently improved) and the Gravatars seem to be the easiest ways. – - If there’s some other easy method out there I haven’t discovered… let me know!

I imagine some bloggers choose not to list more info on their Public Profile page, and that maybe some are not aware that more info can even be listed here… but my request is that everyone link their blog, if nothing else, so that bloggers like me can more readily find you because I want to visit your blog too!  :)

Love & Light,

Dani

  1. I run into this too. I think sometimes, not always but sometimes it’s a simple matter or……they are not bloggers….just readers but they make a gravatar so they can Like or Comment. :) ))

  2. It could be a privacy issue with some. They may not want their blog found by everyone so have as few things to link back to them as possible. I find it frustrating too when I can’t visit a blog in return but it could be as the person before me said, it’s to comment only and they have no blog.

  3. We all find a way to each other somehow…. I have the same frustrations. Thanks for posting this.

  4. LOL…I was just thinking about the linking issue as I logged into WP today…. :D

  5. Well said! I too have often been saddened to click on a Gravatar only to find no link whatsoever, so no easy way to visit them in return. Thank you for this excellent reminder to any blogger who may not realize that their WP account links them to their Gravatar account where they can (and need to!) include their links to WP or any other forum they might be sharing on. Hugs, Gina

  6. Hi Rev! Fellow blogger Lada Ray showed me a neat little trick that works 7 out of 10 times.
Example: I’ve just clicked on your Gravatar, looking at your browser’s URL bar, it reads:
    http://en.gravatar.com/chigardeninc
I proceed to copy your handle: “chigardeninc + wordpress” and GOOGLE IT! The first 3 searches point directly to your blog! Of course this only works if the person who leaves the comment has an active blog to get back to.
Works like a charm! :D Have a wonderful evening!
